How To Generate Quality Website Traffic

You have a website, it is a good website, and you believe everyone who sees it will also love it, but there is one problem. No one knows where it is or even sees it.  Oh you are listed on Google, Yahoo, etc, but when someone searches for a site like yours they get a list consisting of a quarter of a million sites, and your site is number 2967. That is actually quite good, 2967 out of 250,000. But it still means that surfers have 2966 sites to look at before yours. If you are very lucky, then all the search engines combined will send you about one visitor a year! So it is time for you to do something about the problem.

But what or how do you correct this problem?  How do you generate traffic to your website?

Well, like most new website owners (like me with my first website a few years ago) you bought into the hype that it was easy to make money online with a great website, product, service or blog, only to discover that it is actually rather difficult to make any money online, much less be able quit your day job and work online full-time.  But you don’t have to be discouraged and give up hope.  You can indeed make money online but it is going to take time, effort, and unfortunately, money for advertising in order to succeed and see some success with your website.  This doesn’t mean that you need to spend hundreds and thousands of dollars to generate traffic, but I’m sorry to inform you that you will in fact need to spend some money.

First, you need to be honest about your website.  Regardless as to how great you believe the product, service, blog, etc is, you may in fact be fooling yourself.  While I am going to explain how to generate real quality traffic to your website, you and your website need to convince the customer to purchase or sign-up.  I cannot tell you how to convert visitors into paying customers, though.  I can only tell you how to get people to see your site and the rest is entirely up to you.

Next, you need to be realistic about what type of results to expect from the traffic that you are generating.   In my experience, most affiliate website owners have the most difficult time generating sales or sign-ups because there are hundreds or even thousands of other people that own the same exact website.  Depending on the type of affiliate website, it can end up being an exercise in futility.  That doesn’t mean that all affiliate websites are bad because that simply is not true.  There many affiliate programs that are very profitable, but you need to be very cautious before you decide to market an affiliate website because there are just too many of them and the search engines just put them all at the end of the search results automatically.  By the time somebody does stumble across an affiliate site, they have probably already seen the same site a hundred times before and determined they are not interested in it and then just exit the site within a few seconds.

The next mistake an affiliate website owner makes is purchasing bulk traffic from a less than reputable traffic provider.  Usually the traffic they provide to your website is not real or genuine traffic.  It is “bot” traffic created by a software program.  This is detrimental to you and your website.  It is very depressing and frustrating when you can’t understand why you aren’t making any sales even though your Google Analytics report says you had over 100,000 visitors in the past month.   Furthermore, when you purchase traffic from such a provider, be sure that they don’t just send thousands of visitors to your website overnight.   When a website goes from receiving no visitors or a handful of visitors everyday to hundreds or perhaps thousands of visitors, the search engine software looks very closely at the traffic sources and the amount of time the visitors spend navigating the website.  Within an instant of a second the search engines can determine if the traffic is real or fake, and thus end up placing your website so far back from page 1 that nobody ever sees your website.  The end result for you is that you spend a lot of money on worthless traffic and your website will never see the light of day no matter what you do or how much money you spend on it.

So be cautious before purchasing bulk website traffic services.  A reputable Traffic Provider will offer several different types of traffic packages.  When investigating traffic providers look for the following types of traffic packages:  Bulk, RON, US/UK Targeted, Redirected, 24 Hour Unique, and Category Targeted among others.  If the traffic provider offers only one type of traffic, I advise you to save your money and look elsewhere for traffic services.

Many website owners also make the mistake of signing up for “auto-surf” or “rotating traffic” websites.  These are traffic websites where people are paid approximately $.01 for every website they view.  This helps with your search engine rankings if you have enough people surfing your website, but you need hundreds or thousands of people surfing your site every day to actually see any real results in the search engines.  It’s not a bad source for website traffic, but I have yet to meet or speak with a single person who has ever made any sales or sign-ups from such a system.

My experience has demonstrated to me that you need to use every possible source available to you to generate as much traffic as possible, as long as it is real traffic and not “fake” traffic.  As already stated, the search engines recognize this traffic for exactly what it is – “FAKE” and as a result your website will be penalized and pushed further away from a page 1 ranking rather than towards it.   So, be extremely wary of anybody or any source that tries to sell you on a system that “guarantees” a page 1 ranking.  It’s not going to happen and you will be worse off than before if you use a disreputable source.

One of the best sources for traffic is from email advertisements.  There are many internet based companies that provide “professional” email advertising services.  And depending on your product, service, or blog, these types of advertising campaigns can produce great results, but keep in mind that they are designed for high end products and services.  Which is to say that if you are offering something (i.e.: solar panels) that is relatively expensive, then you need to advertise your product, service, etc, to a very defined and selective audience that is prepared to pay a few hundred, or perhaps thousands of dollars for it, because the advertising cost from the ad agency is going to be rather expensive.  So if you are selling an ebook, affiliate opportunity or some other type of low priced item, it doesn’t make sense to spend a few hundred dollars trying to sell an item that only costs $1.99.  The cost to benefit ratio is not profitable.  You might make a few sales, but you will never recoup your expenses.  And since most websites are selling products and services for only a few dollars, you will be better served by using a manual email service, which you can purchase online through countless sources.  The average price for a lifetime membership to such a service varies between $5 and $20 dollars.  A manual email service enables you to send anywhere from a few thousand to several million email ads per day.  BUT, be advised that you will need to send emails everyday, several times each day in order to see any results.  Ever wonder where all the SPAM email you receive is coming from?  It comes from somebody just like you trying to sell their own product and service.  It’s not a bad way to generate traffic, but it certainly does take some effort on your part, and if you can put together a great headline along with a great letter, you will indeed see some results.  But again, your success will be determined by the product or service you are offering.

Other reputable traffic sources, but not necessarily guaranteed to give you terrific results are as follows:

1.  Auto Surf sites

2. Banner Ads

3. Permanent Text Links

4. Ezine Articles

5. Targeted Traffic Providers

Ebay is also a good source for finding inexpensive advertising opportunities, but again, keep in mind that more than a few of the people offering great deals on traffic, seo, or advertising services on ebay are not the most reputable sellers which is why they are offering their services on ebay.  So, be very cautious and discerning about what you purchase and from whom you purchase it.  Check out the seller’s feedback rating and contact a few of their customers prior to investing your hard earned money in an unproven or unknown service.  Then again, there are really some excellent sellers on ebay that offer terrific deals on traffic, banners and seo services.

My favorite source for real traffic is “targeted” website traffic.  Targeted traffic providers, or “resellers” provide “exit” or “redirected” traffic.   Targeted traffic is real traffic.  When a person tries to navigate to a website that is either inactive, suspended or no longer exists, the search engines direct them to your website instead.  Or after somebody tries to exit a website, they are automatically referred to your website instead.  This traffic can be profitable to your bottom line since these visitors have already expressed an interest in the subject matter of your website and thus are redirected to your site.   If you are interested in purchasing targeted traffic, I suggest you visit http://www.uswebcorp.com/.  I have found that this site offers the highest quality traffic at the absolute lowest prices anywhere on the internet.

Ultimately, the best way to generate traffic to your site is to use every possible and available source you can find.  As long as you are frugal and diligent in searching out the best available opportunities, you should be able to run a viable and profitable website business for less than $100 per month in advertising costs.  This includes, rotating traffic sites, auto surf sites, mass email software, safelists, website articles, banner ads, and text link ads.  USE THEM ALL BUT ONLY SPEND WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD!  By using a combination of all these sources on a consistent basis, you will see your website’s traffic increase exponentially and climb up the search engine rankings.  It may take a few months before you see any tangible results, but it is the committed and diligent website owner that ultimately sees success.

I encourage you to stay vigilant and positive while not buying into the hype or lies that you can “become an internet millionaire overnight and quit your day job tomorrow”.  Again, sorry to disappoint you but that’s not going to happen.  Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, makes a million dollars instantly on the internet unless they are selling gold for half price on ebay.  Every single day there are millions of website owners that give up and quit their dreams of finding financial success from a web-based business because they had unrealistic expectations and absolutely no knowledge about how achieve success.  If you want your website to be successful, you need TRAFFIC.  You can and will be successful if you remain focused and put in the work.   That’s all there is to it.
